Canon has a long history of expertise in material science and advanced manufacturing, and together with key partners, we are working to make silk protein a viable commercially-scaled technology.
Silkworm Silk fiber (Bombyx Mori Silkworm) consists of two types of proteins, Sericin (30%) and Fibroin (70%). Through a unique processing method, our team is able to separate the Sericin (sticky coating on the fibers) from the Fibroin (structural center of the silk). The Fibroin is processed into an aqueous solution. This solution has the potential to be used in numerous applications.
Examples of Silk Applications: biomedical, electronics, sensing, and optics.
